Pune, 4th October 2024: After the conclusion of the monsoon season, the state of Maharashtra is experiencing the onset of the ‘October heat.’ On Friday (4th October), Vidarbha recorded a temperature of 35°C, while Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra saw temperatures ranging from 33°C to 34°C. Coastal areas recorded temperatures around 33°C, with Alibaug reaching the highest at 38.9°C on Thursday (3rd October).

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Alibaug reported the highest temperature of 38.9°C on Thursday. Santacruz, Colaba, Harne, and Dahanu recorded an average of 33°C. In Madhya Maharashtra, Jalgaon recorded 34.2°C, while Malegaon and Solapur registered 33°C. In Marathwada, Parbhani recorded 34.4°C, with other areas averaging 33°C. In Vidarbha, the temperature exceeded 35°C in many districts, with Akola at 35.8°C, Chandrapur at 36.0°C, Gadchiroli at 35.0°C, Nagpur at 35.6°C, and Wardha at 35.0°C, with an average of 34°C across the region.

With the reduction in heavy rainfall, clear skies have led to increased heat from the sun throughout the day. However, light rains are expected to return between 6th October and 10th October in many parts of the state, which could bring some relief by lowering temperatures over the next three to four days. Nevertheless, the IMD has warned that the October heat is likely to intensify after 15th October.

For the next four days, light rainfall is forecast in isolated areas across the state. On Friday, rain is expected in North Maharashtra and East Marathwada. On Saturday (5th October), Sunday (6th October), and Monday (7th October), light to moderate rains with thundershowers and lightning are expected in many parts of the state during the day, followed by light to moderate rain in the evening.
