Kushal Trainee put India on Podium at WorldSkills’17

Pune 30th October 2017: Rohim Momin, a21-year-old mason trained at Kushal- CREDAI Pune Metro has won a ‘Medallions of Excellence’ in Bricklaying Skill at WorldSkills Competition which was recently held at Abu Dhabi. This artisan helped India finish with its best-ever performance in this biennial global contest of showcasing skills amongst 59 countries.

Momin from Malda has been his family’s breadwinner since he was orphaned in childhood. Its since a year that he has been formally trained in Pune by team of Kushal-a CREDAI Pune Metro Initiative to improve the skills of construction workforce, to compete at WorldSkills. And over last 4 years more than 30,000 workers have been skilfully trained with certifications. This organisation also bore responsibility of selecting and training participants to be sent at WorldSkills 2017.

Apart from Momin, another trainee Shailendra Chauhan also participated under Floor tiling skills at the competition. Both were trained under the expert guidance of Jaiprakash Shroff, Chairman, Kushal, Kavish Thakwani and mentors Milind Talathi and Paallavi Kothari who were also present at World Skills to support their trainees.

Winning the fifth spot amongst 30 contestants, Momin said in gratitude, “I am thankful to Kushal team for providing training, not only for technical enhancement but also for physical fitness, mental balance and personality development. Such training made my victory possible.” His task was to build brick-and-mortar walls in three designs and he was successful to complete with accurate measurements within 22 hours. One wall resembled a mantelpiece and hearth, another looked like a gable-end and the third was modelled on the Golden Falcon UAE.

It was the second consecutive edition that trainee from Kushal made India Proud by achieving medals for skill development. In 2015, it was Parshuram Naik, who had won a ‘Medallion of Excellence’ at 43rdWorldSkills Competition which was held at Brazil. Naik also shared his expertise and knowledge with Momin.

This year it was 44th edition of WorldSkills 2017 and was held between 14th to 19thOctober and had more than 59 countries competing. The 28-member Indian contingent won 1 silver, 1 bronze and nine medallions of excellence.
