Kargil Vijay Diwas  ceremony held at National War Memorial Southern Command

Pune : Kargil Vijay Diwas, has been instituted to commemorate the success of Indian Armed Forces during Operation Vijay.  On this day India successfully recaptured the high outposts which were occupied by Pakistani intruders during the preceeding winter months.  The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days concluding on 26 July 1999 in a spectacular victory of India.

This year Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed on 26 Jul 2016 with ceremony organised at the National War Memorial, Pune. The ceremony which was conducted in the morning was attended by military personnel of Pune and satellite stations. During the ceremony tribute was paid to martyrs of Kargil War. A commemorative wreath was laid at the Memorial by Lt Gen Bipin Rawat,GOC-in-C Southern Command on behalf of all ranks of Southern Command. Later in the day citizens of Pune paid their tribute to the martyrs by lighting candles at the National War Memorial.

“We salute our war heroes for the sacrifice they made for this Nation. The valiant display of their exemplary effort, courage and selfless devotion to this nation is today as fresh in our minds as it was on the day of July 26, 1999, the official day of the declaration of eviction  of all the intruders from Indian soil. The sacrifice they made with their lives will always be ever cherished by every Indian, and will continue to inspire us. This day also reminds us that while we as a Nation stand as an embodiment of peace, we also have the capability to fight and win a war that is forced upon us”, Army stated in a press release.
