‘Kanada Kafila’ in ‘Vasantotsav Vimarsh 2021’

Pune, February 15, 2021: ‘Vasantotsav’, which has been organized on the occasion of Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande’s birth centenary celebrations by Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Pratishthan will hold a special workshop called ‘Kanada Kafila’ under its ‘Vasantotsav Vimarsh’ this year. The event will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Jyotsna Bhole Sabhagruha, Hirabaug in Pune. The workshop will be open for all and on a first come first serve basis.



Offering the audience a feast of diverse music this year, ‘Vasantotsav’ in its 14th year will be held from February 19 to 21, 2021.


Speaking about the ‘Vasantotsav Vimarsh’ initiative, Rahul Deshpande, famous classical singer and grandson of Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande said, “Every year a lecture on music or a workshop is organized during ‘Vasantotsav Vimarsh’. This year, we have organized a special event called ‘Kanada Kafila’ under ‘Vimarsh’. All music students, artists and aficionados will get free access with hygiene and safety precautions in place.”



In this series, a special workshop on the varieties of Raga Kanada will be presented this year. The first part will consist of a lecture with guided listening session by renowned musicologist, Dr Chaitanya Kunte. In the second part, Pt. Sudheer Pote, a veteran vocalist of Jaipur Gharana will demonstrate some rare varieties and Bandish in Kanada Ang Ragas. He will be accompanied by Milind Pote (Tabla) and Saumitra Kshirsagar (Harmonium).
