Thiruvananthapuram, 27th August 2024: Joy Alukkas, chairman of the Joyalukkas jewellery group and India’s 50th richest individual with a net worth of $4.4 billion, recently reminisced about purchasing his first Rolls Royce. The incident occurred in 2000 when Alukkas, then a prominent businessman from Kerala, visited a Rolls Royce showroom in Dubai.

During his visit, a staff member at the showroom asked him what he was interested in. Alukkas expressed his desire to see a Rolls Royce. However, the staff member reportedly suggested, “If you’re looking to buy a car, you should visit the Mitsubishi showroom instead.”

Feeling slighted by the staff’s response, Alukkas decided to purchase a Rolls Royce in response to the perceived slight. After acquiring the luxury vehicle, he realized he had no personal need for such an extravagant car. Consequently, he chose to donate the Rolls Royce as a prize in a raffle organized by his jewellery chain in the UAE.

In March of this year, Joy Alukkas made headlines again with his latest acquisition: a Rolls-Royce Cullinan valued at ₹6 crore.
