New Delhi, 10th August 2023: On Thursday, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) unveiled imagery of the Earth and the moon, which had been captured by the onboard lander imager camera of Chandrayaan-3.

A tweet from ISRO stated, “The Lander Imager (LI) Camera provided a view of Earth on the day of launch, while the Lander Horizontal Velocity Camera (LHVC) captured an image of the moon a day after Lunar Orbit Insertion.”

Following the successful entry of the spacecraft into lunar orbit, ISRO released the initial glimpse of the moon on August 7, as captured by Chandrayaan-3.

“Chandrayaan-3 has effectively achieved lunar orbit insertion. The space agency reported that a retro-burning manoeuvre was performed at Perilune from the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) situated at ISTRAC (ISRO Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Network) in Bengaluru. Perilune denotes the spacecraft’s closest approach to the moon.

ISRO has announced its intention to conduct a gentle landing on the moon’s surface on August 23rd.
