Tel Aviv/Tehran, 26th October 2024: After 24 days of escalating tensions, Israel has launched a series of retaliatory airstrikes against Iran and Syria in response to ongoing attacks from Tehran.

According to The Times of Israel, the strikes were carried out early Saturday morning, targeting key locations in Iran, including the capital Tehran and the city of Karaj. Israeli airstrikes were also reported in Syria.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attacks, with IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagar stating that Israel is conducting precision strikes against Iranian military bases in response to an attack on October 1. Hagar emphasized that Iran and its allies have been targeting Israel on multiple fronts since October 7, 2023. “Israel has the right to defend itself,” Hagar said, adding, “We will take all necessary measures to protect our country and our people.”

In the wake of the airstrikes, Israel, Iran, and Iraq have closed their airspace, further heightening regional tensions. Iranian state media reported explosions near Imam Khomeini International Airport, with Israel reportedly firing at least seven missiles during the strike.

According to Fox News, Israel had informed the White House of its intentions shortly before launching the airstrikes, a move that underscores the coordination between the two nations. Following the strikes, the U.S. expressed its support for Israel, calling the operation a justified response to Iran’s attacks.

The situation remains tense, as both nations brace for potential further escalation in the already volatile region.
