IPL 2023: Mumbai Beats Gujarat By 27 Runs; MI Secures Third Position In Points Table
Mumbai, 12th May 2023: Chasing the 219 runs set by Mumbai Indians (MI) for victory, Gujarat Titans (GT) once were 103 for eight wickets. It seemed that Mumbai would win the match by at least 100 runs. But Gujarat’s Rashid Khan scored 79 runs in 32 balls alone, but Mumbai won the match by 27 runs.
Mumbai won today’s match by 27 runs and secured third position in the points table with 14 points. But in today’s match, Mumbai had a good chance to improve their run rate. But Rashid Khan’s spectacular innings of 10 sixes crushed Mumbai’s hopes. Now Mumbai’s run rate is -0.117 which may even knock Mumbai out of the playoff race. Mumbai still have two matches left and reportedly they have to win both matches.
Gujarat Titans won the toss and forced Mumbai to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium in the 57th match of the season. But Mumbai got off to a strong start and responded well to Gujarat’s strategy. But Rashid Khan showed his strength and gave Mumbai three shocks in a row.
Finally, Mumbai’s Suryakumar Yadav played a splendid innings and scored a century in 49 balls. On the strength of his century, Mumbai reached 218 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 103 off 49 balls. This was Yadav’s first century in IPL. Rashid Khan took the most four wickets from Gujarat.
