IndiGo and Air India Cancel Flights To Bangladesh Amid Disruptions and Political Turmoil

New Delhi, 5th August 2024: Following a coup in Bangladesh, flights between Delhi and Dhaka have faced significant disruptions. On Monday, an IndiGo flight scheduled for 1 PM to Bangladesh was canceled.

Similarly, a Bangladesh Airlines flight, initially set to depart at 6:30 PM, faces uncertainties and might now depart around 9 AM. Additionally, Air India’s flight AI237 to Dhaka, scheduled for 5 PM, was also canceled.

IndiGo Issues Advisory:
In response to the political upheaval in Bangladesh, IndiGo Airlines has issued an advisory for its passengers. The airline posted on Instagram, stating, “Given the ongoing situation in Dhaka, all flights scheduled for tomorrow (August 6) have unfortunately been canceled. We understand that this may cause a lot of inconvenience and disruption to your travel plans, and we regret this incident.”

Air India Cancels Flights:
Air India has also responded to the crisis, canceling all flights to and from Dhaka with immediate effect. The airline’s advisory states, “In view of the political crisis in Bangladesh, we have canceled our flights to and from Dhaka. We are constantly monitoring the situation. Our passengers with confirmed bookings to and from Dhaka are being assisted, including a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation fees.”

Sheikh Hasina Reaches India:
In a dramatic turn of events, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in India. According to the news agency ANI, Sheikh Hasina landed at Hindon Air Base in a C-130 transport aircraft, which will be parked near the Indian Air Force’s C-17 and C-130J Super Hercules aircraft hangar. The Indian Air Force and security agencies closely monitored the aircraft’s movements from its entry into Indian airspace until its arrival at Hindon Air Base.
