Mumbai/Pune, 23rd December 2023: Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) for the State of Maharashtra, has issued a travel advisory ahead of the consecutive holidays on Saturday 23/12/2023, Sunday 24/12/2023, and Monday 25/12/2023, in celebration of Christmas. With schools and colleges closed during this period, a substantial rise in the number of cars on the Mumbai Pune Expressway is anticipated.

To proactively address potential traffic congestion in the ghats post-holidays, heavy vehicles are being halted before the ghat section to prevent jams. Once the traffic congestion subsides, these vehicles will be redirected. Historical data indicates that the convergence of heavy vehicles and cars often leads to traffic jams during the peak hours of 06:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Dr. Singhal urged all Heavy Vehicle Owners/Drivers Associations to plan their travel on the Pune Channel of the Mumbai Pune Expressway after 12:00 noon on the specified days. Starting journeys later will contribute to a safer and more convenient commute while also saving fuel and time. Additionally, the advisory highlights the potential for damage to the clutch plate and engine of vehicles due to traffic-related stress.

The travel advisory aims to mitigate potential disruptions and ensure a smoother flow of traffic during the festive season. Dr. Singhal emphasized the importance of cooperation from heavy vehicle owners and drivers to collectively contribute to a safer and more efficient travel experience for all commuters on the Mumbai Pune Expressway during the holidays.
