HSRP: Deadline for High-Security Registration Plates Extended to June 30, 2025 In Maharashtra

Nagpur, 20th March 2025: The Maharashtra Transport Department has extended the deadline for installing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles. Vehicle owners will now have until June 30, 2025, to comply with the mandate.
Initially, the State Government, following Central Government directives, had set the deadline for March 2025 to install HSRP on vehicles manufactured before April 2019. However, technical issues on the registration website created difficulties for vehicle owners, causing delays in the installation process.
Recognizing these challenges, authorities had earlier granted a one-month extension, pushing the deadline to April 30, 2025. Now, with lakhs of vehicles still without the mandatory plates, the government has further extended the deadline by two more months.
The Supreme Court has made HSRP mandatory for all vehicles across the country to enhance security and curb vehicle theft. However, many vehicle owners have yet to comply with the directive, citing procedural challenges.
To address this issue and provide relief to citizens, the Transport Department has given additional time. Officials believe that the deadline extension will help vehicle owners complete the installation process smoothly.
It is important to note that vehicles purchased after April 1, 2019, already come with factory-installed HSRP, so owners of these vehicles are not required to take any further action.
With the new deadline set, vehicle owners in Maharashtra are urged to complete the installation process before June 30, 2025, to avoid any penalties.
