Hockey: SAI, PNB improve chances to qualify

Pune, 9th September 2024: Sports Authority Of India, Punjab National Bank and Comptroller & Auditor General Of India recorded vital wins over Central Secretariat, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and improved their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stage of the 4th Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship ‘24 at the Major Dhyanchand Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri, organised by Hockey Maharashtra and supported by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), on Monday.

Likewise, in Pool-C, Food Corporation of India and Services Sports Control Board picked up a vital points each by playing out a 1-1 draw which took their tallies of 4 points from 3 games and occupy the top and second position in the group. Paramvir Singh (22nd – p.c) netted for FCI, while Harman Singh (7th) opened the account for Services initially to get the scoring on the board.

In Pool-A, SAI won 2-1 against Central Secretariat to take their tally to 6 points from three games and up into second place in the standings. SAI netted through a brace by Aditya Lalage (19th, 49th) while Central Secretariat pulled one back through Vinay (4th) which was the opening goal of the match.

In other matches that improved chances to qualify Punjab National Bank (PNB) thrashed C.I.S.F 5-0 and a Comptroller & Auditor General Of India edged out Central Reserve Police Force (C.R.P.F) 4-2. Both winners PNB and Comptroller & Auditor General of India recorded their first wins and took their tally to 4 points (2 matches) respectively.

Punjab National Bank had Gursimran Singh (34th – p.c, 40th – p.s, 55th – p.c) score three while Naveen Antil (41st) and Mathias Minz (43rd) net one each.

In the other Pool-D encounter, Comptroller & Auditor General Of India edged out C.R.P.F 4-2. Goals from Xess Nilam Sanjeep (11th – p.c), Chandan Singh (32nd – p.c), Abharan Sudev B (52nd) and Parmod (56th – p.c) was enough for the winners, while C.R.P.F pulled two back from scores by (Samsher 18 – p.s; Rahul Sharma (24th – p.c).
