Hit-and-Run in Shirur: Youths Flee After Fatal Collision with Two-Wheeler

Shirur, 7th June 2024: While the Kalyani Nagar Porsche incident in Pune, where a drunk minor killed two people due to speeding, is under discussion, another tragic incident has emerged in Shirur. In this case, a laborer was killed and a fellow passenger was injured when a youth’s car, en route to a friend’s birthday party at a dhaba, collided with a two-wheeler. The incident occurred on Thursday (6th June) near Kawathe Yemai in Shirur. Following the accident, the involved youths fled the scene, prompting a police search.

Deepak Yethekar was riding a two-wheeler to pick up dinner along the Pargaon to Kawathe Yemai route, near the bus station in Kawathe Yemai. Ranganath Bansi Adhav was accompanying him on the bike. However, a speeding Maruti Suzuki Eeco car traveling in the opposite direction, from Kawathe Yemai to Pargaon, collided with their two-wheeler. Deepak succumbed to his injuries, while Ranganath, seated behind him, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Shirur.

Following the incident, Deepak’s brother filed a complaint with the police, and Assistant Police Inspector Amol Panhalkar is leading the investigation. Reports are circulating in the Shirur area that the involved youths went to a dhaba and consumed alcohol after the accident. The youths have since gone missing, and efforts are underway to locate them. The police have stated that whether they had consumed alcohol will only be confirmed after their arrest.
