Historic Achievement for Pune: PDMBA Trio Selected as Technical Officials for Paris Olympics

Pune, July 24, 2024 – In a historic moment for Pune, three distinguished members of the Pune District and Metropolitan Badminton Association (PDMBA) have been selected as technical officials for the upcoming Paris Olympics. This remarkable achievement underscores the city’s growing prominence in the global badminton community.

CA Girish Natu has been appointed as Deputy Referee-2, Sudeep Barve as Umpire-3, and Shailesh Kulkarni as an umpire for the Paralympics. Their selection is a testament to their dedication, expertise, and the high standards upheld by the PDMBA.Girish Natu first made history in 2008 as the first Indian to serve as an umpire at the Beijing Olympics. He continued his exemplary service as a match coordinator at the 2012 London Olympics and currently holds the prestigious position of Chairman of the Badminton Asia Association’s Referee Assessor Committee.

Shailesh Kulkarni brings a wealth of experience, having officiated at numerous high-profile events, the 2023 Senior World Championships (Korea), and the Asian Paralympic Championships (China).

Sudeep Barve has also distinguished himself on the global stage, having umpired the Super Series final in China last year and seven other international tournaments. His experience includes officiating at the 2019 World Championship and the 2022 Thomas Cup.
