Pune, 25th July 2024: Unprecedented heavy rains and severe weather have significantly disrupted the electricity supply system in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and surrounding areas including Mulshi, Maval, and Khed talukas. The flooding has submerged electricity systems and meter boxes across various societies, prompting the shutdown of power to 699 distribution units and 13 power lines as a precautionary measure to prevent electrical accidents.

The floodwaters, exacerbated by the release of 40,000 cusecs of water from the Khadakwasla Dam, have caused extensive damage to the power infrastructure. As a result, electricity supply has been interrupted for approximately 84,600 consumers in multiple areas.

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) is working diligently to restore power, but repair efforts have faced significant delays due to ongoing heavy rains. Power will only be reinstated after floodwaters have receded and thorough inspections have been completed. MSEDCL has urged citizens to cooperate during this challenging period.

The heavy rainfall has particularly affected areas such as Sinhagad Road, Ektangari, Pujapark, Gayatri Apartment, Jaltarang Apartment, and several others including Hingane, Kirkatwadi, Swargate, Dhayari, Vadgaon, and Navi Peth. Power supply has been suspended to 38 distribution units in these regions, along with 17 units in Vadgaon Sheri, Nagar Road, and Vishrantwadi.

In Shivajinagar, Chavannagar, Balaji Mandir, Beverly Hills, and other areas, including Khadki, Rastapeth, Bhawaninagar, and Kondhwa, electricity has been cut due to water entering tree branches and feeder pillars. MSEDCL is addressing these issues urgently.

Power outages have also affected Gharkool and Ota schemes in Nigdi, as well as approximately 55 distribution units in Matoshrinagar, Rawet riverside area, Sector 4, Sangvi, Hinjewadi, Dapod, and Kharalwadi.

Maval and Mulshi talukas have seen significant damage, with 30 to 40 power poles uprooted in Mulshi, leading to outages affecting 10 to 12 villages and around 2,600 consumers. The power supply to 29 distribution units in Bhukum, Bhugaon, Man, and Marunji villages has also been suspended for safety reasons.

In Alandi town, electricity supply has been cut due to water from the Indrayani River, affecting two Rohitras and Vadgaon Shinde village. Similarly, power has been disrupted in Kamshet, Lonavala, Karla, Vadgaon, and Talegaon areas due to the fall of two power poles in Pait. Restoration efforts will continue once water levels recede.

MSEDCL remains on high alert, with Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar overseeing the situation. Engineers and staff are working around the clock to address power system malfunctions caused by fallen trees and branches. MSEDCL has requested public cooperation as it manages power supply challenges during the ongoing severe weather.
