Pune, 8th June 2024: The monsoon has officially arrived in Maharashtra today. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain has also spread to Vidarbha and other regions of the state. Several districts in Maharashtra have been issued yellow and orange alerts for the next five days. Heavy rains were observed today in Pune, Raigad, Sangli, and Gondia in Maharashtra, as well as in Belgaum, Karnataka.

In Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, the sudden downpour caught citizens by surprise, leading to traffic congestion and waterlogging on roads managed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Residents have been frustrated by ongoing drainage issues, which have been a source of complaints for months. Just three days ago, an almost cloudburst-like heavy rain caused significant damage in Dhanori, Katraj, Viman Nagar, Lohegaon, and other areas.

Newly elected Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to hold a meeting soon to address the rain’s aftermath. Besides Pune, heavy rains persisted all day in Raigad, Sangli, Nandurbar, Gondia, Sindhudurg, Solapur, Dharashiv, and Belgaum districts in Karnataka. The IMD has advised farmers in Maharashtra to take precautions for their crops as the rain is expected to continue.
