Pune, 2nd August 2024: Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Kerala, particularly in Wayanad, where landslides have claimed 308 lives so far. The continuous downpour has disrupted life across the state, leading to significant challenges and emergency measures.

In response to the weather forecast, all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and tuition centers in the districts of Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, will remain closed today, August 2. This decision follows the Kerala Meteorological Department’s issuance of an ‘orange’ alert for rain in Wayanad district, expected to last until Saturday.

Wayanad is currently bearing the brunt of extensive landslides, which have resulted in 308 fatalities. The district has been severely affected, with rescue operations ongoing three days after the latest landslide. Teams are working tirelessly to rescue people trapped in collapsed buildings.

Heavy rains and waterlogging have severely impacted normal life in Thrissur, prompting authorities to declare a holiday for schools in the area. Many schools across Kerala have been converted into relief camps to accommodate those displaced by the flooding and landslides.

The Meteorological Department’s latest information indicates that heavy rains are expected to continue in Kerala until August 5. Rescue teams are diligently working to assist those affected and to mitigate further damage.

As Kerala grapples with the aftermath of these severe weather conditions, the state remains on high alert, with efforts focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
