Haryana: Parents Rush To Marry Their Daughters After Centre Proposes Law To Increase Marriage Age Of Girls
New Delhi, 20th December 2021: As the central government recently proposed to increase the age limit for marriage for girls up to 21 years, parents in many villages are rushing to marry their daughters. Demand for both court marriages and Nikah has reportedly increased.
Speaking about this, Mushtak, an Imam from Nuh village in Haryana said, “The marriage age bill has created panic among citizens especially in that area where the Muslim community is in majority. We are receiving many applications demanding to get married in two days. We are also announcing it during Namaz.”
Similarly, demand from intercaste marriages increased by 4 per cent recently, said a lawyer from Gurugram.
