Govt Informs About Progress Of Various Airports In Maharashtra In State Assembly, No Mention Of New Pune Airport

Pune 23rd July 2023 : The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis in an ongoing session of the state assembly on Friday informed about the progress of the new airports and facilities being constructed at various airports in the state. However, there was no mention of Purandar Airport or a new dedicated airport for Pune in his speech.

Fadnavis informed the assembly that the Navi Mumbai airport will start functioning next year. He also said that construction of a terminal building by spending Rs 650 crore is also planned at Shirdi Airport. Besides he informed about the technical problems in the development of Nanded and Latur Airports. However, nowhere in his speech he talked about the new dedicated airport for Pune.

This attracted criticism from the citizens in Pune as the city has been waiting for along for a dedicated civil airport for air connectivity. Many citizens reacted through their social media profiles on the matter.

“What about Pune ? Second biggest city of Maharashtra has been waiting for a full fledged civil airport for over 2 decades now. Will it materialise in the foreseeable future is the moot question. Could you Sir , as Honourable Dy CM give the project the impetus it deserves” a user tweeted.

“Sir Ji, Does your govt think that Pune is not part of Maharashtra? Not even a statement about Pune Airport? Does the city not deserve a full fledged airport?” another user tweeted.

Meanwhile local MLA of the city Siddharth Shirole tweeted “Based on the information I’ve received, the construction of the Ch. Sambhaji #Pune International Airport at Purandar is progressing as planned, with the pre-acquisition and land acquisition formalities currently underway.”
