Bengaluru, 27th January 2023: Go First was fined Rs 10 lakh by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for leaving 55 passengers behind at the Bengaluru airport on 9th January. The airline received a notice regarding the event from the aviation regulator a day after it occurred. The passengers, who were scheduled to travel to Delhi on aircraft G8 116, were abandoned on the passenger bus.

“Go First failed to comply with the provision indicated in paragraphs nine and 13 of CAR Section three, Series C, Part II issued by DGCA, resulting in a breach of para. (1A) of Rule 134 read with Schedule XI of the Aircraft Rules, 1937,” the DGCA had highlighted in its statement at the time. “M/s Go First has disregarded the requirement outlined in para. 5.2 of ATC 02 of 2019.”

It continued, “It is pertinent to mention that DGCA has issued Air Transport Circular 02 of 2019 on ‘Facilities/Courtesies to the esteemed travelling public at airports’ and Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) Section -3, Series-C, Part-II on “Minimum Requirements for Grant of Air Operator Certificate to Operate Scheduled Air Transport Services (Passenger). The aviation regulator had stated that it was simple to avoid many mistakes.”

The airline has already expressed regret over the event, which it claimed was “caused due to an unintentional oversight.” The statement states that “passengers were accommodated on different carriers to Delhi and onward to other destinations.” Additionally, a complimentary ticket has been given to the impacted travellers. In keeping with its commitment to providing excellent customer service, the airline has chosen to provide each impacted passenger with one complimentary domestic ticket within the following 12 months. Additionally, it had stated that until an investigation began, “all staff will remain off the roster.”
