Mumbai, 10th July 2024: Following Gautam Gambhir’s confirmation as Team India’s head coach, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has initiated the search for key coaching positions, including bowling coach, fielding coach, and batting coach or assistant coach. Gambhir, renowned for his coaching success with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the IPL 2024 season, has reportedly recommended candidates to the BCCI for these roles. One of his preferences is Abhishek Nayar, currently an assistant coach at KKR and a former player for Mumbai Indians, who is poised to join Gambhir’s coaching team.

Sources indicate that Nayar’s familiarity and successful collaboration with Gambhir at KKR make him a top choice for the assistant coach position under Gambhir’s leadership.

According to reports, while Gambhir has suggested L Balaji and R Vinay Kumar for the role of bowling coach, the BCCI is exploring other options and is seeking a high-profile figure capable of mentoring young talents such as Mayank Yadav, Tushar Deshpande, and Harshit Rana.

Regarding the fielding coach position, the BCCI is inclined towards retaining T Dilip, who was part of Rahul Dravid’s coaching setup until the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024. The board intends to maintain continuity in this crucial coaching role under Gambhir’s tenure.

The BCCI recently acknowledged the contributions of outgoing coaches Paras Mhambrey (Bowling Coach), T. Dilip (Fielding Coach), and Vikram Rathour (Batting Coach), expressing appreciation for their significant contributions to the team’s success.

As Gambhir prepares to lead Team India, these appointments are seen as pivotal in shaping the team’s coaching staff to enhance performance across various aspects of the game.
