Frequent Accidents At Black Spots In Pune Claim 703 Lives In Two And Half Years, Check Details Here
Pune, 28th April 2023: Frequent accidents at black spots in Pune continue to claim innocent lives, with 703 fatalities and 1,173 injuries reported in the last two and a half years.
According to Vijayakumar Magar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, some of the reasons behind these accidents include road conditions, night-time darkness, and driving in the opposite direction.
The traffic police has identified 23 accident spots in the city, with an additional 16 spots set to be included in the list. Some of these black spots include Mai Mangeshkar Hospital, Dukkar Khind New Katraj tunnel, Hadapsar Ravidarshan No. 15, Kharadi Zakat Naka, Khadi Machine Chowk in Kondhwa, Navle Bridge, and Bhumkar Chowk. Drivers not following rules also contribute to some accidents.
The authorities need to take serious action to prevent further accidents, with senior officials from District Administration, Municipal Corporation, Police, RTO, PMRDA, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and Public Works Departments (PWD) working together. Efforts are already being made in coordination with the Police, Municipal Corporation, Transport Department, NHAI, and NGOs to bring the accidents under control, including the setting up of police check posts on steep inclines.
