Flood Alert: Over 1,000 Citizens Evacuated In Pimpri Chinchwad; MLA Mahesh Landge and PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh Inspect Flood-Prone Areas

Pimpri Chinchwad, 4th August 2024: Due to heavy rainfall in the Maval area of Pune and continuous discharge from Pavana Dam, the water level of the rivers flowing through the Pimpri Chinchwad City is continuously rising.

 

In light of this, residents living near the Indrayani River should be relocated to safer places. Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner Shekhar Singh were on the field throughout the day to inspect the situation.

 

Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, Disaster Management Cell Officer Omprakash Bahiwal, Assistant Commissioner of the Slum Development Department Anna Bodade, along other concerned officials, were present.

 

More than 1,000 people from various areas in Pimpri Chinchwad have been moved to shelter centres. A team from the NDRF has entered Pimpri Chinchwad to handle potential emergencies, and relief and rescue operations are underway. The Bombay Engineer Group of the Indian Army and Aundh Fire Brigade have also been put on standby.

 

In the Moshi, Charholi, Chikhali, Kudalwadi, and Bhosari areas of the Bhosari Assembly Constituency, MLA Landge and administrative officers inspected the riverside areas. PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh urged residents and animal owners to move to safer locations and called on various NGOs to support the PCMC administration. Instructions have been issued for the police and PCMC emergency systems to coordinate effectively.

 

Commissioner Singh also instructed all ward officers to have their systems prepared, deploy response teams, and provide flood victims with necessary facilities and food. The medical team is to conduct regular health checks. Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge noted water accumulation in low-lying areas due to the heavy rains but assured that the situation is under control.
