FCI Inter Zone Football: East Zone and Headquarters Split Points, North Zone Triumphs Over West Zone

Pune, 4th October 2024: East Zone and Headquarters split points, while North Zone had it easy against West Zone on the inaugural day of the 53rd All India FCI Inter Zone Football Tournament, at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge- Balewadi, here on Friday.

The tournament which began today had Ajay Bisht (27′ – O.G) score in unfortunate circumstances for East Zone after trailing Headquarters by a goal.

Headquarters, who scored the opening goal, had Yashraj Thapa (13′) score early in the game.

Later, North Zone had it easy winning 3-0 against West Zone.

Piyush Bhandari (2′) opened the scoring with a penalty kick to end the first-half 1-0.

In the second-half Kamal Singh (56′) and Himanshu Rai (68′) scored to complete the tally.

The tournament is being hosted in Pune for the first time. A total of six teams have been divided into two groups; Group-A has East Zone, South Zone and Headquarters, while Group-B has North Zone, North-East and West Zone.

The teams will engage in a league cum knock out basis. The top two will advance onto the semifinals and then the final.

RESULTS

East Zone: 1 (Ajay Bisht 27th OG) drew with Headquarters: 1 (Yashraj Thapa 13th).

North Zone: 3 (Piyush Bhandari 2nd (p); Kamal Singh 56th; Himanshu Rai 68th) bt West Zone: 0
