Pune, 28th June 2024: In a fiery session of the Maharashtra legislative assembly today, Opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar called for the resignation of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, raising alarms over Pune Porsche case investigation and the increasing drug usage in Pune. Comparing the city’s situation to “Udta Punjab,” a term synonymous with rampant drug problems, Wadettiwar expressed grave concerns about the safety and reputation of Pune, particularly its standing as a premier educational hub.

He further emphasized that Pune’s reputation as a center of education is at stake, with parents from various states potentially reconsidering sending their children to the city for higher studies due to safety concerns.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded robustly, defending the Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. He told the legislative assembly that Pune Police chief Amitesh Kumar had played a proactive role in the investigation into the recent Porsche crash and that there was nothing to suggest that action should be taken against him.

At ground level, the statement has come a morale booster for Pune Police Force.
