Pune, 6th September 2024: Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued a stern warning to extortionists attempting to secure contracts through intimidation in the city’s Information Technology (IT) Park. Kumar emphasized that extortion in the name of Mathadi organizations will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against those involved.

It has come to light that private companies in Pune, particularly in IT hubs like Kharadi, are being pressured by individuals seeking contracts for services such as housekeeping and transportation. In a recent incident on Thursday, a person was threatened to secure a transport job at an IT company in the Kharadi area. Following the complaint, a case was registered at Chandannagar police station.

Commissioner Kumar stated that any attempts to force private companies into awarding contracts under duress would be met with stringent legal measures, including action under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA).

In connection with the case, two individuals, Vaibhav Pacharane and Somnath Pathare, both residents of Kharadi, have been charged for illegally entering Barclays Global Service Center in Kharadi and issuing threats to the management. The accused reportedly claimed, “We are local and should get the transport work in the company.” They further threatened to create trouble if their demands were not met.

Assistant Police Inspector Ligade is currently investigating the case.
