New Delhi, 30th March 2022: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has decided to discontinue issuing its strict advisories to State Governments on the management of the Coronavirus disease (COVID) pandemic under the Disaster Management (DM) Act from March 31. However, it has been advised that the use of masks and hand hygiene should continue keeping the pandemic in mind.

In a letter to State Chief Secretaries, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said that after the expiry of the current advisory by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on 31st March, no further order may be issued by the MHA.

This decision comes after the Centre took several proactive measures in coordination with State Government and Union Territory administrations to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus.

Bhalla stated, “Over the last 24 months, significant capacities have been developed for various aspects of management of the pandemic such as diagnostics, surveillance, contact tracing, treatment and vaccination, hospital infrastructure and the general public has a much higher level of awareness on the COVID appropriate behaviour. States and UTS have also developed their capacities and systems and implemented their detailed state/UT specific plans for managing the pandemic.”

In his letter, he said that with the combined efforts, a total of 181.56 crores of vaccine doses have been administered to people.

He further added, “We still need to remain watchful of the situation. Wherever any surge in the number of cases is observed, the States/UTs may consider taking prompt and proactive action, at the local level, as advised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from time to time.”
