New Delhi, 15th December 2022: Today (December 16), the Consortium of National Law Universities was ordered by the Supreme Court to make sure that no student who is physically disabled is denied entry to the upcoming CLAT exam and that all necessary facilities, including a scribe to write the papers, are made available to the deserving candidates.

On August 19, 2017, the Consortium of National Law Universities was founded to raise the bar for legal education throughout the nation and promote better collaboration between National Law Schools.

According to a bench that included Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P Narasimha, “No meritorious student will be prevented from having a scribe in the exam.”

The bench said, “We direct the first respondent (Consortium) to ensure that no student with a disability is denied access to the examination and that all necessary facilities by way of reasonable accommodation should be provided having due regard for the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.”

The bench added, “The first respondent shall, by the subsequent date of listing, place an updated status report on affidavit concerning the subject matter of the controversy in these proceedings, including the number of disabled candidates who applied at the ensuing CLAT and the facilities extended to them.”

The CLAT 2023 exam will be conducted on December 18 (Sunday).
