Empowering Vitiligo Community: Pune Hosts Unique Fashion Show on World Vitiligo Day

Pune, 20th June 2024: On June 21st, Shweta Association will host “Canvas of Nature,” a vitiligo fashion show, in honor of World Vitiligo Day. The event will take place at 5 p.m. at PYC Deccan Gymkhana, Bhandarkar Road. The announcement was made by General Surgeon Dr. Maya Tulpule at a press conference, accompanied by Dr. Garima Bhalla, Principal of the School of Fashion Technology (SOFT), and Dermatologist Dr. Mukta Tulpule Dani.

Dr. Maya Tulpule has dedicated over two decades to integrating the vitiligo community into mainstream society. Shweta Association was established to create a supportive platform for individuals with vitiligo, enabling them to share their experiences, discuss challenges, and learn about the disorder. The organization’s efforts aim to foster self-respect and improve the quality of life for those affected.

The Association organizes educational and awareness programs about vitiligo, targeting various sections of society. They also offer counseling sessions for individuals with vitiligo, their families, and relatives. Additionally, the Association supports research across different medical systems to find effective treatments. Dr. Tulpule has also launched a matrimonial site for people with vitiligo, bringing joy to many couples.

Dr. Tulpule’s latest initiative, a fashion show, provides a unique platform for the vitiligo community. This event aims to send a powerful message: people with vitiligo are no different and deserve the same dignity and respect as everyone else in society.

Twenty-three individuals with vitiligo will participate in the fashion show. Chaitanya Gokhale, a fashion show director and grooming expert, is responsible for training and preparing the participants. SOFT, Pune, is providing costumes, while beauty therapist Leena Khandekar is offering makeup and hair styling services. Dr. Mukta Tulpule Dani, Mona Devsthali, and Rajat Singh, all members of Shweta Association, have coordinated the event with significant effort.

The event is free and open to all.
