Jaipur, 8th April 2025: A devastating hit-and-run incident shook Jaipur on Monday night when a speeding SUV driven by Usman Khan, a 62-year-old factory owner, careened out of control, killing three people and injuring six others over a seven-kilometer stretch. The rampage began near Santosh Mata Temple and continued into the narrow lanes of the Nahargarh police station area before the vehicle got stuck, allowing locals and police to apprehend the intoxicated driver.

Additional DCP (North) Bajrang Singh Shekhawat confirmed that Khan was heavily drunk and lost control of his SUV, causing most of the damage within a 500-meter stretch. The victims included Mamta Kanwar (50), Awadhesh Pareek (37), and Virendra Singh (48), who succumbed to their injuries at Sawai Mansingh Hospital. Six others remain critical in the trauma ward.

Khan, a resident of Rana Colony, Shastri Nagar, owns an iron bed manufacturing factory in Vishwakarma Industrial Area. Following the incident, tensions escalated in the area, prompting the deployment of police from four stations to maintain order. An FIR has been registered based on a complaint by Mamta Kanwar’s father.

According to eyewitnesses, the SUV was traveling at a high speed, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. “The vehicle was moving so fast that it was almost impossible to stop it,” said Rohan Sharma, a local resident who witnessed the incident. “People were trying to get out of the way, but it was too late for some.”

The incident has sparked widespread outrage in Jaipur, with many demanding stricter laws against drunk driving. “This is a clear case of negligence and reckless behavior,” said Ramesh Meena, a local activist. “The government needs to take immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future.”

As the investigation unfolds, police are examining the circumstances leading to the incident and are considering charges against Khan. The incident highlights the need for enhanced safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent such tragedies.
