Pune, 10th April 2024: The total number of voters in Pune city and district has reached a significant milestone, with 82 lakh 92 thousand 951 eligible voters across 21 assembly constituencies. This information was shared by Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase during a press conference addressing the preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Deputy Election Officer Meenal Kalaskar also attended the conference.

The final voter list was officially released on 23rd January. Since then, the electoral authorities have processed newly received applications for enrollment and applications from voters relocating to Pune from other states. This meticulous effort over the last two and a half months has resulted in an increase of 1 lakh 65 thousand 932 voters.

Dr. Diwase highlighted, “The initial final electoral roll accounted for 81 lakh 27 thousand 19 voters. The substantial increase can be attributed to the proactive campaign conducted by the district administration, leading to the registration of new voters. Additionally, we have received another 23,000 applications, which are currently under processing.”

The registration process for adding names to the voter list is ongoing. Dr. Diwase added, “Candidates can register their names in the voter list up to ten days before the last day of filing applications.”

Consequently, the deadline for registering names for the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency is Tuesday (9th April), while for Pune, Maval, and Shirur Lok Sabha constituencies, it is until April 15th. A supplementary voter list will be published following the processing of applications received during this period.

With the surge in voter numbers, the electoral infrastructure has been bolstered, resulting in an increase in the number of polling stations. Across the 21 assembly constituencies of the district, there will be a total of 8,382 polling stations. The training of election personnel is currently underway, with the first phase expected to be completed in the next one to two days.
