Don’t Create Hurdle In River Flow For Beautification Project: Irrigation Dept To Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune, 30th October 2021: The irrigation department has warned Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) not to create a hurdle in the flow of the Mula-Mutha river for its beautification project. The department has warned of action against PMC.

The General Body of the municipal corporation recently given nod for the proposal of Mula-Mutha beautification worth Rs 4.75 crore. A tender worth  Rs 305 crore has been issued for the construction of a four-kilometre stretch from Sangam Bridge to Bundgarden Bridge.

Meanwhile, environmentalist Sarang Yadavkar and RTI activist Vivek Velankar had strongly objected to the proposal. They also informed that though the municipal corporation said that no construction will be done in the river, yet a total of 18 lakh square feet of construction is proposed in this project.

Taking notes of the allegations by the activists, the irrigation department wrote a letter to PMC saying that they will take action against the civic body if there are any hurdles created for river flow due to the beautification project. The action will be taken against the chief engineer of PMC.
