New Delhi, 13 April 2022: Indian aviation regulator DGCA has banned 90 pilots of SpiceJet Airlines from flying Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. DGCA has considered these pilots not capable of flying Max aircraft. The regulator has also said to re-train them for this.

DGCA chief Arun Kumar said strict action will be taken against the guilty by the regulator if found responsible for the lapse.

A spokesperson said SpiceJet Airlines has 650 pilots who are trained to fly Boeing 737 MAX. DGCA has complete details of these 90 pilots which are given in their training profile.
SpiceJet is the only Indian airline to have Max Aircraft in its fleet.

Ace investor Jhunjhunwala and aviation giants Aditya Ghosh and Vinay Dubey’s airline Akasa Air in November last year signed a deal with Boeing for the purchase of 72 MAX aircraft. Akasa Air has not received a single aircraft so far.
