Deputy CM Pawar Suggests To Connect Pune Airport With Metro Route From Ramwadi

Pune, 23rd December 2023: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has advocated for the swift initiation of the Swargate to Katraj Metro project, expressing that once the central government approves the route, the necessary funds from the Maharashtra state government’s share will be promptly allocated.

Speaking at a meeting addressing traffic congestion on Pune Metro Route and Ahmednagar Road, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar emphasized the importance of seeking approvals at the central government level for the Swargate to Katraj metro line. The meeting, attended by prominent figures including Industries Minister Uday Samant, MLA Sunil Tingre, Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, and others, aimed to address transportation challenges in the region.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawar underscored the need for modern facilities at stations along the Swargate to Katraj metro line and suggested considering extending the metro line facility from Ramwadi to the Pune Airport. He urged a speedy resolution of road and bridge works on Ahmednagar Road to alleviate traffic congestion. Additionally, Pawar emphasized expediting the land acquisition process for the Sangamwadi to Kharadi road and taking action to clear encroachments in the city road area. He directed the police department to ensure the prevention of traffic jams in the specified area.

Minister Samant echoed the need for immediate pothole repairs on city roads and stressed the importance of measures to prevent traffic congestion.

In a telephonic conversation during the meeting, Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Mahametro, updated Deputy Chief Minister Pawar on the progress of the Swargate to Katraj metro line. The route proposal is currently pending with the Public Investment Board for final approval. Hardikar assured that once approved, it would proceed to the Union Cabinet for the final nod, following which work on the route would commence.
