Pune, 25th July 2024: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar visited the CCTV Command Control Room at the Pune City Police Commissionerate today to assess the impact of recent heavy rains on the city and to oversee disaster management preparations.

During his visit, Pawar reviewed real-time footage of flood-affected areas from the command control room. He was accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Pune City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner Praveen Patil, Manoj Patil and other senior police officials.

Pawar instructed that the police department must ensure that the system is fully operational and ready for any emergency response. He emphasized the importance of managing water levels at the Khadakwasla Dam, recommending that the dam’s water storage be monitored closely to prevent hindering rescue operations. “If it rains during the night, we need to ensure that there is sufficient capacity at Khadakwasla Dam to accommodate the excess water,” he said. “Increasing the release of water during the day will help control the flooding.”

The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the need for continued operation of the hydropower project at Pavana Dam and stressed the importance of being vigilant to prevent difficulties for residents in flood-affected areas. He instructed that if necessary, residents should be relocated to safer places with all required facilities provided during the relocation process.

Pawar reviewed the flood situation in specific areas such as Charholi, Ekta Nagar, Shivaji bridge, and Chand Tara Chowk through the CCTV system. He also sought updates on disaster management from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner Shekhar Singh via telephone. Pawar recommended deploying additional manpower to support rescue and relief operations.
