Delhi, 24th June 2024: Paramjit Singh Pamma, the National President of the National Akali Dal, has called upon the Delhi government to intervene in the arbitrary practices of electricity companies. He emphasized the need for Delhi residents to have the liberty to select their electricity provider similar to choosing mobile tariffs, aiming for more affordable and reliable service. Currently, Pamma highlighted, electricity companies are imposing erratic billing practices on consumers, while the state government claims to offer free electricity and education. Pamma urged the government to regulate both electricity companies and private schools, stressing the need for accountability in public services.

Pamma’s remarks come after a meeting with senior party officials where he criticized the government’s silence over escalating electricity bills and demanded immediate action to curb arbitrary practices. He argued that allowing competition among electricity providers would benefit consumers by promoting competitive pricing and service quality. Pamma pointed out that similar to the telecom sector, where multiple companies offer competitive tariffs, introducing competition in the electricity sector would lead to better service delivery and fairer pricing for residents. The National Akali Dal has vowed to continue pushing for reforms to empower consumers and ensure transparency in public utilities.
