Pune, 12th September 2023: Vikram Kumar, the Commissioner and Administrator of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has given the green light to extend the deadline for releasing the development plan for 11 villages within the municipal limits. As per the decision, the new deadline for the development plan of these villages has been set for March 1, 2024.

The proposal, duly approved by the Commissioner, has been forwarded to the Maharashtra State Government’s Urban Development Department for further necessary actions. Consequently, the development projects for these villages are expected to face further delays.

The Municipal Corporation had previously requested an extension to the development plan announcement deadline after it had expired. The State Government initially extended the deadline until June 25, 2023. However, as the work could not be completed within this extended timeframe, the government has once again sought an extension, now until March 1, 2024. This request was discussed and approved by the City Improvement Committee before reaching the Commissioner, who subsequently endorsed it.

These 11 villages were incorporated into the Pune Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction on October 4, 2017. They include Lohegaon, Mundhwa, Sadesatranali, Uttamnagar, Shivane, Ambegaon Khurd, Undri, Dhayari, Ambegaon Budruk, Fursungi, and Uruli Devachi. Subsequently, on December 4, 2018, the Municipal Corporation released the development plan for these villages, which was then approved during the Municipal Corporation’s main meeting on December 21, 2018. However, various factors, including elections and the COVID-19 pandemic, led to significant delays in the plan’s implementation.

Currently, these villages are still governed by regional development plans. While the Integrated Building Control Regulations are being enforced throughout the state, their absence in these villages is impacting their development. Restrictions on construction using Transfer Development Rights (TDR) also pose challenges. With the proposal for another extension now submitted, it appears that the development of these 11 villages will face further setbacks.
