Ranchi, 28th May 2022: The aviation sector regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs five lakh on IndiGo airline for refusing to board a specially abled child. This happened at Ranchi airport on 7th May.

IndiGo had said that in view of the safety of the passengers, a differently-abled child was not allowed to board the Ranchi-Hyderabad flight on May 7 as he looked nervous. Since the child was barred from boarding the plane, the parents accompanying him also decided not to board the plane.

On May 9, DGCA constituted a three-member team to investigate the incident.

The DGCA said, “The behavior of IndiGo employees with the child at Ranchi airport on May 7 was wrong and the situation worsened.”

It states that the child should have been treated with compassion and the child’s nervousness should have been pacified.

According to the DGCA statement, special circumstances require an extraordinary response, but the airline’s staff failed to do so. In such a situation, it has been decided to impose a fine of Rs five lakh on the airline under the provisions of the Aircraft Rules.
