Natal Province, 2nd July 2024: South Africa’s David Miller expressed deep disappointment after the team’s loss to India in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Miller, who was crucial in the closing overs, described his emotions following India’s victory, highlighting the team’s resilience and his pride in their journey. This final marked South Africa’s closest approach to a major trophy since rejoining international cricket in 1991, despite consistent semifinal exits over the decades. Miller, a veteran of past heartbreaks, reflected on his innings and the tournament, where he scored 169 runs in nine matches at an average of 28.16.

India chose to bat first after winning the toss, recovering from a shaky start to reach 176/7 thanks to key partnerships, notably between Virat Kohli and Axar Patel. In response, South Africa faced early setbacks but rallied through Heinrich Klaasen’s fifty before India’s tight bowling restricted them to 169/8. Kohli’s stellar performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award, while both Kohli and India captain Rohit Sharma announced their retirements from T20Is during the presentation ceremony.
