Cybercrime Cases Increasing In Pune, 16% Spike Reported Compared To Last Year

Pune 11th Sept 2023: The cases of cybercrime are increasing with every passing year in Pune as the latest data shows an increase of over 16% till August compared to last year. According to officials, a total of 22,671 cases have been registered in Pune till August 18 compared to 19,500 cases registered during the same period last year.

The city police stations are flooded with complaints related to online cheating, social media crimes and data hacking. The cyber criminals are adopting new techniques to dupe people through online fraud. Earlier, the city police was recording more cases of fraud through OLX application while now the cases of people being duped through online tasks, Telegram to earn money have increased.

The number of cases had increased to 19,500 last year from 19,000 cases reported in 2021. The city police last year constituted cyber cells at every police station to handle the load as the cyber police station was flooded with many complaints. According to police, educated people including software engineers are also falling prey to online task fraud. The police have appealed to people to not trust such online platforms and ensure safe payment while doing online transactions.
