Cow’s Milk Price Increased by Rs. 2 per Liter in Pune Starting Today

Pune, 13th July 2024: The price of cow’s milk has increased by Rs. 2 per liter, starting today, following a meeting of milk producers held in Pune. Consumers will now have to pay Rs. 56 per liter, up from the previous price of Rs. 54. Gopalrao Mhaske, chairman of the Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited, announced that members of the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association decided to raise the price of milk pouches by Rs. 2. This decision was made during a meeting at the office of the Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited (Katraj Dairy).

Representatives from various cooperatives and private associations in Maharashtra attended the meeting, including Chitale Dairy, Parag Milk, Govind Milk, Nature Delight, Urja Milk, Rajhans Milk, Santkrupa, SR Thorat, Katraj, Godavari, Anant, Sonai, Akshara Milk, and Suyog Milk. The price hike applies specifically to cow’s milk.

The government’s cow milk subsidy policy, implemented from 1st July 2024, mandates an increase of Rs. 3 in the milk purchase price. Despite this, the Maharashtra Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association has unanimously decided to raise the selling price by Rs. 2, according to Union Secretary Prakash Kutwal.

Current status of milk sales:

– Total milk sold across Maharashtra: 65 to 70 lakh liters
– Sales through Doodh Utpadak Prakriya Vyavsay Kalyankari Sangh: 40 to 42 lakh liters
– Milk sold in Pune city: 18 to 20 lakh liters
– Sales in Pune city through Sangh: 12 to 13 lakh liters
– Availability of milk packs: 250 ml, 500 ml, and 1-liter packs
– Price of fresh cow’s milk in packs: Rs. 56 per liter
