Pune, January 2, 2021: Ahead of starting to roll out vaccination in the city, Pune had a dry run of COVID-19 vaccines at three hospitals on Saturday. One at Aundh District Hospital in Pune, the other two at Jijamata hospitals in Pimpri-Chinchwad and rural hospital in Mann. The drill was carried out on 75 health workers registered in the three hospitals between 9 am to 11 am. None of the health workers were administered vaccines during the dry run.

The Serum Institute of India has received a green signal from the subject expert committee for its candidate CoviShield to be used in an emergency case, although the institute awaits the drug regulator’s nod. The COVID dry run was conducted in four districts in Maharashtra after the administration gave the green light to the vaccine, among which one was Pune.

The health workers who were part of the dry run were already registered by the district administration on the website created for corona vaccination. The drill was of this sort– at first, they were interviewed, then seated at the place where vaccination would be given and reviewed whether they have any difficulties. After administering the vaccine, the person will be kept under the supervision of a doctor for half an hour. All this process carried out during the dry run session. Health officials were present at all three centers during the practice.
