Conscious Efforts Started To Make Prisons In Maharashtra Reformatory

Pune, 19th January 2023: Prisons Department plays a very important role in reforming the convicts of various types of crimes in the prisons and how to rehabilitate them as good citizens in society. That is why the motto of the Prisons Department is “Reformation and Rehabilitation”.

On 17th January, Amitabh Gupta, Additional Director General of Police and Inspector General (Prisons and Correctional Services), Maharashtra, held a review meeting with all the Deputy Inspectors General of Prisons and Superintendents of all Central Prisons to find out the obstacles in the Prisons Department and take measures to remove the said issues.

The following suggestions were made in the meeting:

1) The facilities which are obligatory to be provided to the prisoners as per law should be provided and the facilities which are restricted under the law should be strictly followed.

2) Medical tests of all prisoners in Jails, like Blood tests, ECG, Sugar, and Urine, should be completed by 2nd February 2023. The health of prisoners who have diseases like heart disease, TB, and AIDS should be given more attention with the help of Charitable Institutions, CSR, or District Hospitals.

3) The prisons in which women are detained, French system (nursery) to be started there by 15th February.

4) Food grains in the diet of prisoners must be of edible quality.

5) The food items sold in the jail canteen should be of good quality.
