Conjunctivitis Outbreak: PCMC Advises Precautionary Measures

Pimpri, 26th July 2023: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued a public warning regarding the surge in Conjunctivitis cases in Pune city. The municipal authority is urging citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to halt the further spread of this highly contagious eye infection.

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as ‘pink eye,’ leads to eye inflammation, causing redness, itching, and discomfort. Individuals are advised to seek immediate medical attention if they experience any such symptoms.

In addition to the public caution, PCMC has provided safety guidelines to help citizens protect themselves. Here are some suggestions outlined by the civic body:

Avoid using items such as towels, tissues, soap, or pillows that have been used by an infected person. The contagious period of the infection lasts around four to five days,
after which it usually improves. Remain calm and don’t panic. People with the infection should wear goggles when venturing outside their homes or workplaces. If you suspect exposure to the infection, promptly seek advice from an eye specialist.

These guidelines emphasize the significance of personal hygiene, the use of individual items, and the importance of timely medical consultation to curb the spread of the infection.
