Columbia University invites city psychologist to deliver a talk

Pune, June 6: Pune-based clinical psychologist Dr. Radhika Bapat has been invited by the Columbia University, USA to deliver a talk at the prestigious New York State Psychiatric Institute in Manhattan. She will be sharing her work and experiences as a Clinical Psychologist in India, with an emphasis on Pune and Mumbai.

Dr. Bapat, who has a PhD in Social and Behavioural Sciences from the University of Leiden, Netherlands, will be delivering a speech as a part of the T32 seminar series. The T32 seminar series is conducted as a part of the Columbia University’s Global Mental Health Program. In this series, renowned mental health professionals from all over the world are invited to discuss various topics and pathbreaking advances in the field of psychology.

A well-known name in the sphere of clinical psychology and psychotherapy Dr. Bapat has been the recipient of the prestigious ‘Emerging Young Psychologist Award’ last year. It is a coveted award given by the International Union of Psychological Sciences once every four years to 40 scholars under the age of 35. She is currently the Head of the Department of Behavioural Sciences and Mental Health, Sahyadri Hospitals, Pune. As a part of the seminar, she will be highlighting complexities of the cases handled by her team while working in this department.

Dr. Bapat has specifically been known as an expert in niche areas of therapy including divorce mediation and infidelity. During this seminar, she will highlight the business model adopted by her department and the socio-economics of healthcare in corporate India. Mental health is emerging as one of the most talked about issues in recent times in India. Dr. Bapat’s talk will also briefly touch upon these recent movements including people in the spotlight such as Deepika Padukone, Karan Johar, All India Bakchod and their impact on the way youth look at mental health problems.
