Pune, 15th December 2023: In a surprising turn of weather events, Pune experienced a significant drop in temperature, leading to an increase in hailstorms over the past few days. On Friday, Pune recorded its lowest temperature in the first half of December in the last two years, signaling an unexpected chill in the air.

Pune, renowned for its pleasant winter weather, took an unusual turn in climatic conditions after a period of cold post-Diwali. The fluctuating weather patterns were attributed to a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, influenced by Cyclone Michaung. While temperatures initially rose, the recent days have seen a gradual decline in the minimum temperature.

According to data from the Meteorological Department, the average temperature in Pune for the first half of December is typically around 15.8 degrees Celsius. In 2022, the recorded temperature was 15.1 degrees Celsius, and in 2021, it stood at 15.7 degrees Celsius. This year, on December 15, the morning temperature plummeted to 12.3 degrees Celsius, marking the lowest recorded temperature in the first half of December in the last two years.

The delightful drizzle that characterized the recent days is expected to diminish in the next two days, with a predicted rise in temperature on December 17 and 18. Meteorological forecasts indicate that Pune may have to endure a few more days before witnessing single-digit minimum temperatures, signifying a further drop in the mercury.
