Pune, 1st August 2024: The hot mix project at Yerwada, crucial for repairing potholes caused by rains, has been closed during the rainy season. This closure has significantly slowed down the work of repairing potholes on city roads.

Superintendent Engineer of the Road Department, Sahebrao Dandge, informed that the Municipal Commissioner has approved the construction of new hot mix projects at Shindewadi and Warje.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) currently operates a single 120-tonne hot mix project at Yerwada, which produces 450 tonnes of gravel mix asphalt daily. Of this, 150 tonnes are distributed to 15 ward offices at a rate of ten tonnes each, while the remaining asphalt is used for filling potholes and asphalting roads. However, the Yerwada project has been closed for the past few days, leading to a shortage of asphalt and affecting pothole repairs. Continuous rainfall has exacerbated the situation, causing numerous potholes to appear on city roads.

The frequent shutdowns of the old Yerwada project have prompted the PMC to plan the construction of two new projects. These new projects, each with a capacity of 160 tonnes, will be located at Shindewadi on Satara Road and Warje in the western part of the city. The estimated cost for each project is four and a half crore rupees, and this preliminary estimate has been approved. Following this, the commissioner approved the proposal, and the tender process will commence soon. Dandge stated that the construction of these plants would be completed within three months after the issuance of the mandate.
