Bahraich: In a shameful incident, a 10 month old baby boy died during treatment at a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh, after her mother failed to pay bribe of Rs 20 for injection.

The incident took place at the district hospital in Bahraich where Sumita, a resident under Hardi police station of the district, had taken her 10 month old son to the hospital on August 7. Doctors had found the child had deficient blood and admitted him in the hospital.

The child was supposed to be administered an injection on the night of August 8. She approached a sanitary staff, Pawan, who also acted as nursing staff during night, for the injection. But he allegedly demanded Rs 20 bribe.

However the parents of the child could not afford the bribe during night and assured him to pay amount in the morning. To which Pawan reportedly replied that the injection will be administered in morning and left.

On August 9 morning the child died.

When victim’s relatives learnt about the incident they gathered outside the hospital and demanded action against the culprit.

The district administration has removed the staff from job and launched an enquiry into the whole incident.
