Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus awarded best Swachh (clean) iconic place in India

Mumbai, September 3, 2019 : Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is the best swachh iconic place in India as adjudged by Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. The Juries are from the Guardian Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation, JAL Shakti. Swachh Iconic Places is in collaborative with three other central Ministries: (i) Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, (ii) M/o Culture, and (iii) M/o Tourism and (iv) UNESCO.

This prestigious award for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Teminus as the Best Swachh Iconic Place in India will be given at a ceremony to be held on 6th September 2019 during Swachh Mahatsav at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. CSMT competed for this Best Swachh Iconic Place in India with 30 other places as selected in all three phases. This award will be received by Ministry of Railways jointly along with BMC and CSR Partner.

Hon’ble Prime minister of India selected 100 Iconic places all over India, under INDO-SAN, Swachh Bharat Mission among which 30 Iconic places were selected in three phases. 10 of them Launched in Phase I in 2016 are Vaishno Devi, (Jammu and Kashmir), Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Maharashtra), Taj Mahal (Uttar Pradesh) Tirupati Temple (Andhra Pradesh), Golden Temple (Punjab), Manikarnika Ghat (Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh), Ajmer Sharif Dargah (Rajasthan), Meenakshi Temple (Tamil Nadu), Kamakhya Temple (Assam), Jagannath Puri (Odisha). Phase II of Swachh Iconic Places was launched in Nov 2017 Gangotri, (Uttarakhand), Yamunotri, Mahakaleshwar Temple, (Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh), Charminar (Hyderabad, telangana), Convent and Church of St. Francis of Assissi (Goa), Kalady (Kerala). Gommateswara, BaidyanathDham (Jharkhand), Gaya Tirth (Bihar) and Somnath temple (Gujrat). Ten new iconic sites in 3rd Phase are Raghavendra Swamy Temple (Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh); Hazardwari Palace (Murshidabad, West Bengal); Brahma Sarovar Temple (Kurukshetra, Haryana); VidurKuti (Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh); Mana village (Chamoli, Uttarakhand); Pangong Lake (Leh-Ladakh, J&K); Nagvasuki Temple (Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh); Ima Keithal/market (Imphal, Manipur); Sabarimala Temple (Kerala); and Kanvashram (Uttarakhand).

The Parameters considered to adjudge the best swachh iconic place are Accomplishment of Action Plan, Participation/Involvement of stakeholders in the execution of action plans, Fund leveraged, Fund Utilized, Cleanliness in peripheral area, Visibility of Swachh Iconic Place, Sustainability of Initiatives, Evidences of visibility of differences.
