Pune, 15th April 2024: A chartered accountant was defrauded of three crore three lakh rupees after being enticed to invest in the stock market with the promise of substantial returns. The accountant, who works for a private company in Pune, fell victim to the cyber thieves’ scheme and took out a loan of two crore rupees from a bank to fund the investment.

In February, the chartered accountant received a message from the cyber criminals, which suggested that investing in the stock market online would yield attractive returns. Swayed by the prospect, the accountant decided to invest, only to be deceived by the fraudsters. The victim has since filed a complaint with the Cyber Police Station, seeking justice for the financial loss incurred.

The chartered accountant was approached by cyber thieves who asked him to download an app, promising guidance on investing in the stock market. The accountant, who fell victim to the scammers, took out a loan of two crore rupees from two banks for the investment.

After investing, the accountant could view the returns he had supposedly gained through the app. When he contacted the phone number provided by the thieves to inquire about withdrawing money from the stock market, they informed him that he had made good returns but needed to pay a certain amount towards social work first.

The demand for payment raised suspicions with the chartered accountant, prompting him to file a complaint at the Cyber Police Station. The incident led to the registration of a case against the cyber thieves involved in the scheme.
